Rooftop Glamping in Melbourne

April 11, 2017

Last weekend I had the pleasure of trying out rooftop glamping at one of Melbourne’s prestige hotels. St Jerome’s Hotel is located in the heart of Melbourne CBD just above Melbourne Central Mall. This hotel really exceeded all my expectations and I’m so excited to share my wonderful experience with you all.

We arrived in Melbourne CBD just after midday and proceeded to check in to our rooftop room with a view. The entrance is quite tricky to find but luckily the team at St Jerome’s Hotel were kind enough to send you emails with directions on how to get to the hotel. If you enter Melbourne Central via Little Lonsdale Street (you will see the Kiehl’s store and if you go into that entrance and turn left into the elevator area you can go up the elevator to level 3) and go to level 3 you will see the entrance to this amazing hotel. You can’t miss it because once you enter through the doors you’ll see giant bowling pins on the left side!

As you enter the hotel you walk past a cute bike rack which is also located where the hosting reception and greetings staff are. The staff greeted us and assisted us with our luggage. They offered us a complimentary drink (it was happy hour which I believe was 5-7pm every day) and we also got a nice passionfruit flavoured macaron! It was so delicious!

The tents are lined up into two sides (left and right). Our tent was located on the right side and we stayed at tent number 5! This is one of the nicer tents as we got our own front seating area and the inside was extremely spacious. First thing I see as I open up my tent is the cute bed setting. It is blush pink and beige pink in colour I LOVED IT! (I’m such a sucker for anything pink).
As you enter your tent you also notice a basket full of all the amenities you need. You get a robe, body and face towels, slippers, extra blankets, drinking water and some really cool alcoholic drinks. Every room comes with an eski filled with 4 drinks and boy are these drinks fancy! There was one called bicycle – how fitting right? These are all complimentary so don’t forget to drink yours when you arrive!

After we our luggage settled in our rooms we proceeded to relax outside near the bicycle bar. Here they offer drinks, food, music and some cute little board games for those who wish to play giant connect four or card games. The best part is they also deliver a Gelato Messina dessert to your room (again this is all complimentary – isn’t that great! All part of the price of one night).
Night time can be a bit boring so after relaxing in your cute tents don’t forget to go to reception and grab your giant bowling pin (remember the one I mentioned was at the entrance of the hotel?). Don’t be fooled by these giant bowling pins they are not ordinary décor – they are actually used by guests at St Jerome’s Hotel. Guests can take one bowling pin and bring it over to Strike Bowling next door (literally outside the entrance and turn left) and it treats two guests to a complimentary game of strike bowling (again this is all complimentary and part of the price of one night!).

After bowling it was the perfect time to watch Melbourne from above. This isn’t my first time glamping but it was my first time glamping on a rooftop in the heart of a city like Melbourne and boy was it worth it. The view was amazing and you could see every part of the city light up as the day turned into night.

Morning time means breakfast and guests at St Jerome’s Hotel receive a little hamper basket of joy in the morning. In our basket we had a T2 Strawberry iced tea, orange juice, a latte (or coffee of your choice), two sandwiches with egg, cheese, ham & salad inside, granola, yoghurt, milk and . Personally I loved the T2 iced tea and the granola was quite yummy!

This was definitely such a fun and unique experience. The staff were amazing and it really was one of the highlights of our visit to Melbourne. If you’re ever visiting Melbourne and wanting a unique experience I truly recommend St Jerome’s Hotel. Hope you enjoyed my review of my stay at St Jerome’s Hotel. Let me know your thoughts and whether you have been glamping in a similar scene like this.

    Hello Mandy!
This is the first time I have come across this idea of rooftop glamping and it really sounds like fun! A little like playing when we were kids except with great service and convenience with the place and activities so nicely thought out. It must have been a really different experience camping in the urban jungle!

    Dear Mandy,
This is absolutely amazing! I never in my life have ever heard of rooftop glaming. When I saw your Instagram post I was so intrigued and so glad to see this blog post!
The Rooftop Glaming at St.Jerome’s Hotel certainly covered all bases with their superb treatment! I would love to see that rooftop view, enjoy a passion fruit flavored macaroon, and the bedding in tent five is certainly delightful!
I hope I get to experience all there is to offer at St.Jerome’s Hotel !

This is the first time I get introduced to rooftop glamping and I need to admit that it sounds like a lovely experience! Those tents were so cute, and I can’t believe it was so hard finding the entrance, haha. And how cool is that you could actually pick up a giant bowling pin from the reception?! Now I’ll have to stop by St. Jerome’s Hotel when I’ll make it to Melbourne! Dying over those passion fruit macaroons. x

This hotel offers the best rooftop glamping, I’ve never seen something like that before. The tents are so cute with such a dreamy decoration.I would love to visit St.Jerome’s Hotel once in my life and admire the beautiful view of Melbourne from there. Oh my god! I have literally been doing glamping all wrong haha. This seriously sounds phenomenal! So jealous of your experience! I love how accommodating they were and how cute the little tents are and are so welcoming when you arrive. I’ve never even been to Melbourne and I literally want to go just to go glamping haha. Also love that they have the bowling nearby. Sounds so much fun.

I haven’t been glamping before but have always wanted to try it. Rather than be outside in the wilderness, I totally prefer this rooftop “hotel” like glamping. What a wonderful experience from all the amenities that are included with the tent and the food, but really the view of the city is spectacular! I love that there are beds inside the tent and how they provide robes…just like a hotel but outside! What an incredible idea and I would love to try this one day when I visit Melbourne! Thanks for the fab review and all the wonderful photos. Feels like I am there with you! xoxo, Christine

Yeah, so before now, I’ve never heard about rooftop glamping, but now you’ve gotten me all interested! Typically when I think of a tent, my mind automatically goes to camping, but the way this is setup looks divine! From the color scheme of the bedding, to the cute little lamp on the bedside table…it’s really a home away from home. I am very impressed with St. Jerome’s Hotel. It’s really like no other I’ve seen!

OMG, how fun is this. I never knew about rooftop clamping, and it sounds like a lot of fun. There are many rooftops in LA, they should do something like this. I would totally go 🙂

When I think of glamping, I think of a nice and spacious camper with all the amenities but this is certainly taking it to the next level! When I saw your post on IG, I was SO hoping that you would write a post on this! The tents are a bit larger than I was expecting which is amazing! You can’t glamp without a spacious tent right? Such a hospitable hotel too! Love that there is so much included! You had me at the free gelato and macaroon talk! Also, super cool that you have complimentary bowling too! This is that moment when I want to fly to Melbourne just for this clamping experience!

Mandy this sounds like such an amazing experience. So I will be honest with you, this is the first time I have been introduced to Glamping. I was so intrigued after seeing your posts on Instagram, that I had to find out more about your experience. I think I have only been camping once in my life, when I was a teenager. I just wasn’t suited for the camping life. But Glamping sounds like the perfect activity for someone like me. Not only is your tent spacious and filled with amenities, but the whole experience is so luxurious. The Food sounds absolutely delicious too (I think you had me at the Macaroons). And the view from the St Jerome’s Hotel rooftop is absolutely amazing. I am sharing this post with my husband too, to show him that this is exactly the kind of experience I need :). I will definitely try Glamping at St Jerome’s Hotel when I visit Melbourne next.

Gosh darn it, you’ve convinced me. I’m flying to Melbourne asap JUST so I can stay at this hotel! I’ve never been glamping before, and despite all the fabulous stories I’ve heard, I think your experience at the St Jerome Hotel trumps it all. Not only is their decor on point, but their level of thoughtfulness when it comes to details (all those amenities, the color coordination, complimentary food items, etc.) and level of service is incredible. I can’t believe so many delicious drinks, snacks, and that gelato dessert is all complimentary! It’s also incredible that the hotel has thought about providing so many activities on site as well as at Strike Bowling right nearby. I’m sure the hubby and I could be happy spending all day in that fabulous tent alone, but should we ever get bored it’s a relief to know there is so much to do and so much fun to be had on-site and next door as well. Thank you for sharing such a fantastic review- it felt like I was there every step of the experience with you!

I had no idea what to expect when I saw “glamping” on rooftop, but the photo and your detailed description of the set up was so helpful. Everything is super cute, who would have thought to set up tents on the rooftop of a hotel as a luxury lodging system? The bed in the tent looked really comfortable, exactly what glam+camping would be. The goodies they provided to drink and eat also sounded delicious. I like that there is also the bowling right next door so that guests are sufficiently entertained. Very unique and interesting experience it must have been and now I’m intrigued to give it a try myself.

Wait a second. Is this really a thing?! Because I absolutely love the concept of it. There’s no way i’d ever go camping because I’m so not about that rugged life haha, but GLAMPING just sounds like a whole other thing! I love how it infused traditional concepts of camping such as sleeping it out in a tent, but definitely more luxurious given all the fun activities and amenities they have around. My personal favourite is that bowling. How amazing is that?! Melbourne honestly has some of the coolest and innovative ideas because I doubt Toronto even has anything close to Glamping. Will definitely be on my radar when I’m in the area, sounds like such a fun experience

Oh my gosh this is so amazing. I love glamping but glamping on a hotel rooftop is something I’ve never heard of! It looks super fun and exciting. But I have so many questions! Do you get to use a bathroom haha? Could you go down to the hotel and use their other amenities like gym and pool? Do they host this glamping all year round or only seasonal for spring/summer, maybe when weather permit? I seriously want to go to Melbourne just to do this! Such a great idea

WOW babe this glamping experience looks amazing and something to remember. LOVE the tents since they look so unique and authentic like the ones I stayed in my Africa trip however I dint have a rooftop like you hahaha. I love when hotels offer this memorable experiences to their guest. And so cool you have the bowling room next door. For sure will add this place to my bucket list to visit. Thank you for sharing your experience babe.

    hello Mandy!
Nice to se you babe. Great feed about this kinfdof hotel in the tent. Never seen before a similar hospitality. mostly reserved and cute look. I’d try a similar situation, as well as the way they serve breakfast, as if it were a kind of picnic. Really enjoyable. <3

Wow, this is like the true definition of glamping for sure. St. Jerome’s Hotel made everything so modern and dare I say, “hipster,” but way cooler. I love the interior! I think what’s best is that you get a rooftop view of the city sky. I wish they would have this in LA. It’s such a unique concept, but I’m not sure LA is clean enough or cockroach free. Lol. Can you please take me next time?

    xoxo,
